Proximity to Union Square, and the morning breakfast was fabulous!

The room was very small...especially the bathroom. Our AC unit did not work so we slept with the windows open - which allowed alot of the street noise in.

Great location and easy parking nearby. The hotel itself is historically appealing and the beds and linens super comfortable. The staff is very pleasant and helpful and the complementary cocktail hour and breakfast is excellent. Be aware there is a dress code...no athletic apparel...they describe it as buisiness casual. Seeing as my 16 year old daughter and I stayed here following her lacrosse tournament...I Would have told her to bring a few dresses. We had a great time...would recommend to anyone.

Outlets were at a premium....but that really didn't bother me. If you will have a computer and more than one phone to charge, you may need to get creative.

The staff was very friendly and helpful and the location is excellent in San Francisco.

The bathroom was a bit small, it was a challenge for my 6 ft husband where the toilet was positioned and since our room faced the street, it was noisy.

Very clean. Great downtown location. Shower was great (best water pressure of all places we stayed on this trip). Bed was comfortable.

Room was a bit small ... could be better with less furniture. No on-site parking ... but did find a great secure lot around the corner for my motorcycle.

We always try to stay here. They have a fantastic staff, happy hour, great restaurant with views, business office, wonderful events free of charge, breakfast buffet and terrific food. No other hotel beats it.

Our room was clean and quiet. I liked the simple, classic decor. I have been to some really nice hotels where they charge you $5 for the bottle of water in the room, but here there was a glass caraffe and a water cooler in the hall. I liked the extra attention to less waste--more than just offering not to wash your linens. The breakfast buffet was very good with tons to choose from in a beautiful, old style rooftop dining room. We were rather unprepared for the dress code, but they seemed to be a bit flexible, at least in the morning, allowing jeans. My husband was asked to remove his baseball hat. I actually found the old school environment refreshing after spending the night out in SF.

The room and the bathroom were just a tiny bit small for the $.

This is a perfectly charming hotel if you're among its core clientele, which appear to be retired military personnel and their spouses. The central location is great. The breakfast buffet was excellent and price was included - easily worth $10-15/day. The bed and pillows were super comfortable. Staff was courteous and efficient. Housekeeping respected my "do not disturb" sign, unlike in many other hotels. When I ordered some food delivered from a local restaurant, the concierge kindly brought eating utensils to my room. After checkout I realized I'd left my wireless router in the room. A simple call to housekeeping confirmed this and they promptly offered to ship it to me.

I stayed at this hotel as it was the venue for a conference I was attending. Nothing egregious to complain about, but I probably wouldn't stay here again given other choices in the area. The "special rate" offered by the conference organizers was exactly the same as the hotel's regular rate, which I thought was a bit on the high side. No AAA discount seemed available. The room was small and the bathroom claustrophobically so, unlike the photos shown online. I later found other, more modern hotels with more spacious rooms in the area for comparable or even lower rates. A window provided ample sunlight but no view. Hotel decor was way too traditional for my taste but probably appropriate for their intended clientele. I'd probably recommend the hotel to my grandparents but not to my friends.

The location was great and the bed was fantastic. I wasn't feeling well one day and spent the whole day in bed and it was soooo comfortable.

The nicest expereince we've shared in a long time. Don't change a thing

    We couldn't stay longer

The hotel is in a great location - within walking distance to many of the tourist attractions San Francisco is known for, such as Chinatown, Mission District etc. Also, it is close to the train ( 4 blocks),bus and cable car (right out front 1 - block) modes of transportation. The staff was friendly, efficient, and helpful. The free amenities of the health club, happy hours 4-6 pm, and full American breakfast set this establishment apaprt from any other hotel I have ever stayed at.

Good location, great staff and comes with a great breakfast and a nice complimentary happy hour.

Would have been nice to have a bathtub.
